Have you ever been in the middle of typing a letter, working on an assignment, entering accounts & had the power drop enough for your PC to reboot unannounced? You then find that you have lost everything you have just done or even worse your PC will not restart. You may have just experienced a brown-out.
Brown-outs are experienced when there is a drop in the power supply. You may often see the lighting dim for a very short period. This may not have affect any of your general appliances in the home or office but can be quite damaging to your PC hardware to the extent of data loss. A power supply in a PC will compensate for the lower power by consuming more current, creating excess heat & stressing components.
Regular brow-outs will continually degrade the hardware quite often to premature failing. This degradation is caused 'electronic rust'.
Brown-outs should be treated just as seriously as spikes which also can cause costly damage.
Electronic line noise can also be a problem causing disturbances between computers and telecommunication
equipment. This high frequency distortion or 'static' can result in data corruption.
As power cannot be seen as such, power is often overlooked as the cause of hardware & software problems. The cost of these disturbances can be quite high and not just in monetary terms.
For a small expense you can protect your PC from power fluctuations........... with an uninterrupted power supply
or UPS. There are various sizes available so consult with us or your current technician for advice on the UPS to suit your needs. |
